Salesforce Inspector Reloaded takes everything that made the original Salesforce Inspector great and gives it a serious upgrade. The original tool, built over a decade ago, became a staple for Salesforce admins and developers, but when updates stopped, the community stepped in.

Led by Thomas Prouvot, the new team took the reins, and Salesforce Inspector Reloaded was born. This isn’t just a patch job—it’s a complete reimagining with new features that make it invaluable for today’s Salesforce pros. For a Salesforce DevOps Engineer, it’s an absolute must-have to make everyday tasks faster, improve productivity, and handle multiple orgs without the usual headaches.

Navigation, Navigation, Navigation

If there’s one thing that’s true about being a Salesforce DevOps Engineer, it’s that the moment you finish one project, you’re thrown into something completely different, usually in a whole new part of the platform. Everything is constantly changing, so having a tool that makes navigation easy is vital. Salesforce Inspector Reloaded has a few different ways to navigate, but arguably, the most useful is the Shortcuts tab. Think of it as the built-in Setup search box, available anywhere on the platform.

Key Navigation Features:

  • Shortcuts Tab: Need to check which packages are installed in your sandbox? Open Shortcuts and type “Installed Packages.” Need to check the latest deployment job status? Open Shortcuts and type “Deployment Status.” Need to edit a Flow? You get the picture—this tab turns the often-painful process of searching through Setup into a few simple keystrokes 🔍.

Shortcuts Tab

  • Users Tab: Need to check user settings? Click on the Users tab, then hit the Details button to get there instantly.
  • Org Tab: Managing multiple orgs? The Org tab always has the org ID handy for when you need it. No more switching back and forth trying to remember which org you’re in.
  • Objects Tab: This tab gives you quick links to field or record-type metadata, making it super easy to jump right into what you need without getting lost in Salesforce’s endless menus.

These shortcuts make moving around the platform way easier, which is something every DevOps Engineer can appreciate 💜

Get the Most Out of Your Data Queries

One common responsibility of a Salesforce DevOps Engineer is supporting the creation of seed data in new environments. Creating data often means a lot of checking to see what records already exist—which in turn means a lot of querying.

Salesforce Inspector Reloaded’s Data Export tool is incredibly powerful for this. While it’s technically called “Data Export,” let’s be honest—most of us are here for the SOQL query capabilities.

Data Export: The Features You Didn’t Know You Needed:

  1. Field Suggestions: No more digging around for API names when building a query. The field suggestions feature lets you type your best guess, and it’ll give you real-time options for the API name you’re after. It makes building queries faster and way less error-prone.

Field suggestions

  1. Query History: How often do you find yourself running the same queries over and over? Now, you can just pull those from your history—no need to rewrite them.
  2. Saved Queries: Label and store your frequently used queries for quick access. This is a lifesaver when you’re jumping between environments and need consistency.
  3. Loop Results: Instead of being stopped by SOQL limits, this feature will loop through the results and concatenate them together, letting you get as many records as possible. Just be careful—you don’t want to unintentionally query millions of records (not that I would know anything about this…).
  4. Trailing Comma Fix: If you remember the original Salesforce Inspector, you’ll be glad to know that the annoying trailing comma after field selection is finally gone. It’s a small thing, but it saves time and reduces frustration.

'Show All Data' for Ultimate Visibility

Alright, I know I said the querying tool was great, but if we’re being real, my favorite feature might just be Show All Data. As DevOps Engineers, we’re the ones who need to get into the nitty-gritty of how data, permissions, and metadata interact. Show All Data gives you a complete view of all the fields for a given record—even the ones that aren’t on the layout.

Show All Data Features:

  • Complete Field Overview: With Show All Data, you don’t just see field names, API names, and current values—you also get extra properties like field length by clicking the down arrow next to each field. This is a lifesaver when you’re debugging or need to verify metadata properties across different environments.

Length information

  • Export Related Records: Scroll down to the relationships section and hit the down arrow to open Export Related Records. This will take you right into the Data Export tool with a pre-built query for all related records. It’s an easy way to go from inspecting a record to pulling its related data in just a few clicks.
  • Filter Box: The Filter box at the top of the Show All Data page is another hidden gem—use it to narrow down the view if things start feeling overwhelming.
  • Edit Field Values: Yes, you can edit and save new values directly from this page (just use caution, of course). It’s like having full access to all your data right there in the org, without many of the usual limitations.

Conclusion

Salesforce Inspector Reloaded takes everything that was great about the original and levels it up for what we need today. Whether you’re using it for quick navigation, querying data, or inspecting record details, it’s a tool that makes the daily grind of DevOps work more efficient and honestly a little more enjoyable 🚀.

Like Salesforce Inspector Reloaded, Salto is another tool you can add to your toolkit to make things like navigating deployments and viewing metadata quick and simple. Both tools help streamline complex processes, allowing Salesforce professionals to spend more time delivering value rather than troubleshooting the platform. Whether you’re using it for quick navigation, querying data, or inspecting record details, it’s a tool that makes the daily grind of DevOps work more efficient and, honestly, a little more enjoyable.

By making navigation and data management smoother, both tools let us focus on what really matters—delivering value through solid, reliable deployments!
